With financial closure now achieved, Denmark's long-awaited community windfarm project has cleared the last financial hurdle on the way to becoming a reality.

"After eight years we are in the home straight," company spokesman Murray Thornton said. "By buying shares in the project people in Denmark have made it clear that they want to be part of a profitable, sustainable, renewable-energy project they can call their own."

The windfarm, scheduled for completion by November, will be the second of its kind in WA, and only the third in Australia, with its two 800-kilowatt turbines supplying about 40% of Denmark's present annual consumption - all the electricity used by about 1100 homes.

It will also prevent about 6000 tonnes of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere each year.
